Kansas men earn Roadrunner title

? Four Kansas University golfers finished in the top 20, including three in the top 10, and the Jayhawks cruised to a 14-stroke victory Tuesday in the Roadrunner Intercollegiate tournament.

KU shot a three-round total of 856 to win the 17-team event at the 6,691-yard, par-71 Oak Hills Country Club. Baylor was a distant second at 870, and Texas San Antonio was third at 875. It was the Jayhawks’ first team title since winning the 2003 Kansas Invitational.

“Winning by that many strokes is good for our confidence,” KU coach Ross Randall said. “We also beat every team competing from our district, which says a lot about how we played this tournament.

“I was pleased with our play throughout most of the tournament. It was a good win for our team, especially this early in the season.”

Freshman Tyler Docking shot a final round 69 to finish tied for third at 212. Senior Tyler Hall carded a 72 in round three and finished in fifth place with a total of 214.

Freshman Gary Woodland finished in a career-best sixth place after he shot a three-round total of 215. Junior Kevin Ward shot a final-round 69, including a back-nine score of 29, for a three-round total of 221 and a tie for 19th place.

Junior Andrew Price finished tied for 29th after he shot a 76 in his final round for a three-round total of 224. Sophomore Ryan Rainer competed as an individual and finished tied for 40th with a three-round 227 total.
