Hawks sting Lakers, 94-93

? Jason Terry threw the ball into the stands, and his jersey and headband soon followed.

“It’s the greatest feeling we’ve had all year,” Terry said after the ragtag Atlanta Hawks defeated the Los Angeles Lakers.

Terry’s free throw with 11.9 seconds left put Atlanta ahead, and Gary Payton and Shaquille O’Neal each missed last-second shots as the Hawks rallied for a 94-93 victory Tuesday.

Kobe Bryant, the Lakers’ leading scorer, was in Colorado for a closed hearing in the sexual assault case against him. It was the first time this season he missed a game when healthy; he sat out 14 others because of various injuries. Los Angeles is 7-8 without him.

“Without Kobe, we should have proved something,” Payton said. “He has been pushing us. If he had been here, he would have given us more energy. I didn’t play, Shaq didn’t play.”
