Sticky conditions expected today

To turn the air conditioner back on or not to turn it on? That’s the question many Lawrence residents will have to ask themselves today.

“It will feel hot and sticky outside,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “Although temperatures will be in the mid 80s, it will feel a lot warmer, with the dew points in the 60s.”

Schack said the Lawrence area is still relatively cool for this time of year. The average high for late June is 88, but the last few days have seen highs in the upper 60s, mid 70s and low 80s. The relatively cool weather will continue through the weekend, she said.

Thin, high clouds will filter the sunlight today, with winds 5 to 10 mph and the high reaching 84. Overnight, the clouds will be on the increase, with the low 66 by Thursday morning. The National Weather Service put the rain chance for today and tonight at 20 percent.

“Showers and thunderstorms will be in the region on Thursday and Friday,” Schack said. The chance for rain Thursday is 60 percent and the chance Friday is 50 percent, according to the National Weather Service.

Thursday’s high will be 81, with cloudy skies. Friday’s temperature will start at 67 and rise to 81

“It looks like the rain will be out of the region on Saturday and Sunday, which is good news for your Fourth of July weekend,” Schack said. “It will feel hot and humid for any outdoor plans.”
