Red Cross sponsoring blood drive at church

The Douglas County Chapter of the American Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive Thursday at the First Christian Church, 1000 Ky.

Blood collection will begin at noon and continue until 6 p.m. No appointment is necessary. All blood types are needed.

Senior Services board schedules meeting

The Douglas County Senior Services’ Board of Directors will have its monthly meeting at 3:30 p.m. today in the studio of the Lawrence Senior Center, 745 Vt.

Sherry Warren will make a presentation about Interfaith Caring Neighbors, which helps elderly residents live at home and maintain independence, dignity and quality of life through volunteer services.

The meeting is open to the public.

Health issues focus of town-hall meeting

The Kansas Health Foundation will conduct a town-hall meeting Wednesday in Lawrence to hear public comments on improving the health of all Kansans, especially children.

The meeting will take place from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Naismith A Room at the SpringHill Suites by Marriott, 1 Riverfront Plaza. The meeting is geared toward Kansas residents and leaders in business, government, religion, health and education.

The foundation is a philanthropy whose representatives tour the state seeking advice making Kansas “the best state in the nation to raise a child.”

Information gathered during the tour will be analyzed to determine what the foundation can do to improve the health of Kansans.
