Leona D. Adams

Mrs. Adams died Thursday, June 17, 2004, at her home.

She was born March 15, 1939, the daughter of John L. and Eula Mae Welton Montgomery. She attended Ottawa High School with the class of 1957. She had lived in Ottawa since 1968 and had previously lived in Osawatomie, Garnett and Kincaid.

Mrs. Adams worked in Lawrence at A-1 Cab Co. as a dispatcher in the late 1960s, Norge Village Laundry in the mid-’70s and North American Hotel and Hallmark Inn in the housekeeping department in the late ’70s. She was then a clerk for Franklin County Transfer Station for 24 years before she retired May 20, 2004.

She was a member and former deacon of North Baptist Church in Ottawa. She was also a member of Ottawa Promenaders Square Dance Club.

She married Joe Fred Scott on Aug. 24, 1955, in Matfield Green. They later divorced. She married Robert Adams on Jan. 12, 1976, in Lawrence. They later divorced.

Two infant sons, Rickie Scott and David Scott; two grandchildren; and a stepgreat-grandson died earlier.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen Hull and Rita Coulter, both of Ottawa, and Annette Spillman, Quenemo; two sons, Randy Scott, Ottawa, and John Scott, Woodward, Okla.; four sisters, Donna M. Yakle, Beth E. Hotaling and Sandra L. Moore, all of Ottawa, and Linda S. Fletcher, Olathe; a brother, Kenny R. Montgomery, Ottawa; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; eight stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 8:30 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the mortuary, where family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday.

The family suggests memorials to North Baptist Church or Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5901 of Ottawa, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa 66067.
