Hillyard services
Services for Erma Hillyard, 91, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Memorial Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa.
Mrs. Hillyard died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, in Ottawa.
She was born Oct. 31, 1912, in Allerton, Iowa, the daughter of James and Nellie Sparger Casey. She graduated from Allerton High School in 1928. She moved to Lawrence in 1988.
Mrs. Hillyard was a homemaker and had worked part-time doing advertising layout at Fox Printing in Des Moines. She was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church in Des Moines and member of First Christian Church in Lawrence.
She married Gilbert Hillyard on July 28, 1934, in Humeston, Iowa. He died in 1999.
Survivors include a son, James A. Hillyard, Creswell, Ore.; a daughter, Judith A. Chadwick, Lawrence; a sister, Marieta Massey, Des Moines; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where family will receive them from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. today.
The family suggests memorials to First Christian Church, sent in care of the funeral home or to the church.
