John T. Forbes

Services for John T. Forbes, 73, Lawrence, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church. Family inurnment services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Forbes died Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born Sept. 23, 1930, in Joplin, Mo., the son of Noble Guy and Zachy Taylor Forbes. He received Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in industrial arts from Pittsburg State University. He moved to Lawrence in 1957.

Mr. Forbes served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He taught industrial arts at Central Junior High School from 1957 to 1962. He then taught at Lawrence High School and retired as assistant principal in 1990.

He was a member of First Christian Church, Lawrence Masonic Lodge 6, Scottish Rite Bodies, American Legion Dorsey-Liberty Post 14 and the Noon Kiwanis Club. He was also an American Red Cross volunteer for 25 years.

He married Sue Lawlis on May 25, 1951, in Baxter Springs. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Janet Lynn Harsha, Eureka Springs, Ark., Laurie Ann Sawyer, McPherson, and Susan Leigh Harper, Pleasantview, Utah; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family suggests memorials to First Christian Church or Palliative Care at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, sent in care of Warren-McElwain Mortuary.
