Mobile home fire under investigation

Eudora — A fire that destroyed a mobile home Sunday night is under investigation by the Eudora Fire Department.

Firefighters from four fire departments responded to the blaze when it was reported at 7:19 p.m. The fire was under control by 7:28 p.m., and no one was injured, said Eudora Assistant Fire Chief Mike Underwood. He declined to speculate on what might have caused the fire pending the outcome of the investigation.

Eudora Police were the first to arrive at the scene and found smoke coming from the mobile home on Lot 57 in the Grandview Mobile Home Court, Officer Matt Daigh said. It appeared there were some people in the mobile home, but all had escaped, he said.

Firefighters arrived and found the mobile home engulfed in smoke and flames, Underwood said. The mobile home was a total loss, he said. A man living in the home was identified as Marty Springer.

Eudora called for assistance from Eudora and Wakarusa townships, and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical sent a trailer to replenish air tanks.

Garcia was driving a Ford Mustang east on Seventh Street from the Highpointe apartment complex when he lost control of the car at Florida Street, police said. The car went up an embankment and overturned, police said.
