Lonn L. King

Services for Lonn L. King, 69, Linwood, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lawrence. Military graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Jug Prairie Cemetery in Brooklyn, Wis.

Mr. King died Tuesday, June 8, 2004, at his home.

He was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Brooklyn, Wis., the son of Arthur W. and Beth M. Boyle King. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a bachelor’s degree in conservation and biology and from UW-Madison with a master’s degree in forest entomology.

He lived in Eudora for 21 years and in Linwood for the past six years.

Mr. King was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a decorated combat veteran of the Korean War and Southeast Asia. He worked for 17 years at Rhone-Poulenc Agricultural Co. of Raleigh, N.C., before he retired as a senior manager in field research.

He married Melanie Horel on June 6, 1959, in Stevens Point, Wis. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Beth Schwalm, Greenwood, Mo., and Victoria Anne Scott, Shawnee; a son, James A., Baldwin; a sister, Joan F. Jensen, Washington, D.C.; and eight grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Warren-McElwain Mortuary Eudora Chapel.

The family suggests memorials to Trinity Lutheran Church, sent in care of the mortuary.
