Raiders win opener in Topeka tourney

? Lawrence’s Raiders downed Topeka Post 74, 9-5, Thursday in a first-round game at the Topeka Post 400 tournament at Seaman High’s field.

Dominick Harrell ripped a three-run homer in the seventh and also picked up the save for the Raiders (4-1).

Ryan Engel went 3-for-5, Brett Lisher had two doubles in four at-bats, Carl Lisher was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Tyson Corley was 2-for-4.

The winning run scored in the sixth when Carl Lisher’s sacrifice fly plated Corley. Harrell’s three-run homer in the seventh gave the Raiders a cushion.

“We had 13 hits. Of the 13, five were extra bases, which was nice,” Raiders coach Reggie Christiansen said. “We had only three extra-base hits in our previous four games.

“The wins and losses are not that big a deal,” he added of the team, which is off to a fast start. “We just want to play good baseball. If we can play good baseball, wins will take care of themselves. We ran ourselves out of some innings early, but we’re getting better each and every day.”

On the mound, John Parker started and was relieved by Grant Meisenheimer in the fifth and finally Harrell.

The Raiders will meet Leavenworth at 12:15 p.m. Saturday, and Mac and Seitz at 2:30 p.m. Saturday as the tourney continues.
