Bob and Verla Lewis, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Friday.

The couple met in Waco, Texas, where Bob was stationed with the Army Air Corps and Verla worked for Sears Roebuck. Three months later, on Aug. 6, 1944, they were married in Oak Park, Ill.

Bob is retired from university relations at Kansas University.

Their children are Greg Lewis, Carbondale, Ill.; Steve Lewis, Lawrence; Jim Lewis, Lawrence; Connie Culbertson, Belleville, Ill.; Nancy Ward, Weaverville, N.C.; David Lewis, Livingston, Mont.; Tim Lewis, Morrison, Colo.; Marsha Sebek, Chicago; Andy Lewis, Fayetteville, Ark.; and Matt Lewis, Wairoa, New Zealand. They have 24 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Spurgeon

John and Karla Spurgeon, Lawrence, will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary in September with a vacation in San Diego.

They were married July 28, 1979, in Tescott. They have three children, Marika Spurgeon, Brenna Spurgeon and Patrick Spurgeon, all of Lawrence.
