CHANUTE ? Jake Hoover clubbed four hits and Ryan Engel three as the defending champion Lawrence Raiders opened the State AAA Legion baseball tournament with a 13-2 pasting of Arkansas City Thursday afternoon.

Hoover had two doubles and two singles and drove in two runs. Engel contributed three singles and drove in three runs as the Raiders run-ruled Ark City in seven innings. Tyler Blankenship and Taylor Martin added two hits apiece to the Raiders’ 15-hit attack.

Tyson Corley pitched the first six innings, allowing no runs and just two hits.

The Raiders will meet Hays in the second round at about 5 p.m. today at Katy Park. Hays edged Hutchinson, 7-5, in Friday’s other afternoon game.

The Lawrence Outlaws were scheduled to meet host Chanute later Friday night.
