Lawrence man arrested in connection with wife’s death

Lawrence police are investigating the murder of a Lawrence woman — and have arrested her husband in connection with her death.

According to a Lawrence police department spokesman, the incident started early Wednesday morning. Police were originally called to a home at 2105 Carolina St. for a medical emergency.

There, police found 46-year-old Mary Miller dead in her bed. Her husband told police that his wife was found unresponsive and he called emergency services.

Initially police had no idea what caused Mrs. Miller’s death. Police began to investigate and an autopsy was conducted.

The autopsy determined that she was the victim of a homicide, police said.

Throughout their investigation, Lawrence police obtained probable cause to identify Mrs. Miller’s husband — 45-year-old Martin “Kenneth” Miller as the suspect.

This evening, around 6 p.m., Martin Miller was placed under arrest and booked into the Douglas County Jail under the charge of first-degree murder.

A bond hearing will be held Saturday in Douglas County District Court.

District Attorney Christine Kenney says her office will review the case during the weekend and expects him to be formally charged in Douglas County District Court on Monday.

Police are not releasing the cause of Mrs. Miller’s death, citing the ongoing investigation.
