Mystics halt Lynx streak

? Rookie Alana Beard scored 23 points and made two free throws with 1:11 remaining to lead the Washington Mystics to a 65-61 victory Friday night over Minnesota, ending the Lynx’s franchise-record six-game winning streak.

Beard, who made her first eight shots, finished 8-for-9 from the field and 7-for-7 from the free-throw line as the Mystics snapped a three-game losing streak.

Katie Smith, who led the Lynx with 19 points, left with 11:09 remaining in the game when she injured her right knee while scrambling with Beard for a loose ball. She did not return.

Auburn Hills, Mich. — Swin Cash had 16 points and a season-high 14 rebounds to lead Detroit over Charlotte, handing the Sting their fourth consecutive defeat. Ruth Riley, chosen to join Cash on the U.S. Olympic team earlier in the week, also had 16 points for Detroit.
