The Lawrence Mentor’s Duplicate Bridge Club met July 14. Eleven pairs competed in a stratified game. Don Brennaman directed the Howell movement.

Chuck Hedges and Harriett Olson claimed first place in A. Betty Spalsbury and Dan Osman finished second in A and first in B and C. Donna Munson and Pat Lombardi placed third in A. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley were fourth in A and second in B. Dick Moore and Bobbie McCorkle took third in B and second in C.

  • The Lawrence TGIF Duplicate Bridge Club met July 16. Nine and a half tables participated in a stratified game. Don Brennaman directed the Mitchell movement.

Playing the North-South cards, Kent McCullough and Clyde Romer finished first in A. Ilse Steinhardt and Betty Spalsbury claimed second in A and first in B and C. Lynn Hui and Harry Shaffer took third in A. Virginia Seaver and Chuck Hedges were fourth in A.

Competing East-West, Shirley Reese and Chris Lane tied for first place in A and B with Yvonne Hedges and Carol Ball. Linda Swain and Linda Randall finished third in A and B and first in C. Janice Hollowell and Gladys Rivard took fourth in A and B and second in C.

  • The Lawrence Duplicate Bridge Club was host of a qualifying game Monday for the North American Open Pairs championships. Eleven tables of competitors participated in a stratified game that was sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League and followed a Mitchell movement. Virginia Seaver directed the play.

Playing the North-South cards, Jerry Sloan and Bill Schutzel claimed first place in A and B. Donna Johnson and Dave Piro finished second in A. Martie Hartman and Pat Burgstahler placed third in A, second in B and first in C. John Hickey and Patt Radford took fourth in A and third in B. Klee Zaricky and Chris Lane were fourth in B. Donna Munson and Pat Lombardi finished second in B.

Playing East-West, Dave Rhea and Liz Summers-Rhea finished first in A and B. Paul Heitzman and Virginia Seaver placed second in A and B. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley were third in A and B and first in C. Terry Tolar and Harry Shaffer tied for fourth place in A and B with Julia Brooks and Mona Bell. Ilse Steinhardt and Russ LaForce were second in C.

Overall, Rhea-Summers-Rhea claimed first place in A and B. Sloan and Schutzel were second in A and B. Johnson and Piro were third in A. Hartman and Burgstahler placed fourth in A, third in B and first in C. Hickey and Radford finished in a tie with Seaver and Heitzman for fifth in A and fourth in B.
