• Eudora Run Winners: Matt Riley of Lawrence and Brittney Graff of Eudora were the overall four-mile winners in the Eudora CPA run Saturday. In the two-mile portion, the overall winners were Zane Pittman and Hannah Pittman, each of Eudora.

• U-10 Rebels third: The U-10 Kansas Rebels went 7-2 to place third at the USSSA World Series last week at the Johnson County 3&2 Sports Complex. The Rebels, the state champs, defeated the Sandlot Stars and Topeka Crocs. The Rebels also defeated the Oklahoma Hap Dumont champions, the Lawton Lynx, before losing to the Arkansas champions, the Bentonville Diamond Dawgs, 10-9. Team members are Nick Bennett, Tyler Brenn, Anthony Buffalomeat, Brett Frantz, Driskell Johnson, Zach Losey, Montana Samuels, Cody Stanclift, Elliot Vaughn, Jake Vinoverski and Wyatt Woods. Team members selected to the all-tournament team were Buffalomeat, Johnson and Samuels. The team is coached by Doug Woods, Randy Samuels and Doug Bennett.

• Lightning strike at state: The Lawrence Lightning, Douglas County Amateur Baseball Assn.’s 9-year-old Select Team, won the state NBC “Hap Dumont” 9-U tournament July 13 in Pittsburg and qualified to go to the national tournament in Bartlett, Tenn. The team also won the 9-10 Saddle Club Showdown on July 18 in Wellsville. Team members are: Stan Skwarlo, Kyle McFarland, Garrick Clapp, Matt Baker, CJ Stuever, Shane Willoughby, Cody Scott, Drake Hoffer, Alex Green, Rigby McClure, Jacob Caldwell, Adam Rea and Drew Green. Mike Willoughby, Darren McClure, Joe Caldwell and Kevin Stuever are the coaches. Skwarlo placed second in the base-running competition, followed by McFarland. Clapp and Baker were second and third place in the Home Run Derby.

• Shepler hole in one: Margo Shepler carded a hole-in-one on the 135-yard No. 8 hole at Alvamar Country Club. Shepler used a 6-iron for the ace, which was witnessed by Jim Shepler and Tricia Perkins.

• Jayhawk Golf Club results: Eric Lynn won gross, and Pat Roszell won the net portion of the Jayhawk Golf Club’s tournament Sunday at Alvamar. Gross results: Lynn, 75; Chris Anderson, 76; Pat Anderson, 77; Kent Beisner, 77; Van Reichert, 77. Net: Roszell, 66; Bob Losasso, 67; Bob Cohen, 68; Tom Taylor, 69; Scott Reichert, 71.

• Wilson in golf meet: Lawrence’s Sydney Wilson will compete in the girls 16-18 division of the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships, which run July 22-Aug. 1 at PGA National Resort&Spa. The OIJGC is an international event that draws more than 800 players from 43 states, four Canadian provinces and 31 nations.

• 12-U Phenix win: The 12-U Lawrence Phenix girls fastpitch won the Peppers “Tune Up for Nationals Tournament,” July 17 and 18 in Olathe. Team members are, Anna Mages, Ottawa; Alex Zordel, Haley Finucane, Baldwin; Madison Oller, Bailey Scott, Eudora; Lexi Smith, Olivia Johnson, Kacie Welborn, Allison Ice, Jamie Morgison and Maddy Wilson, Lawrence. Coaches are Bill Finucane, Don Zordel, Baldwin; Lee Ice, Lawrence; and Marv Oller, Eudora.

• Detonators win: The 8-U Lawrence Detonators have won their last three tournaments, including the 8-U state championships in Wichita. Team members are: Brandon Eddy, Charlie Shuck, Gage Nelson, Colton Kooser, Ryan Walter, Tanner Glazer, Bryce Montes De Oca, Zach McNabb, Mason Tomlinson, Joe Dineen, Cameron Pope, Wilson Hack and Jacob Seratte. • Perry second in softball: The Perry C-1 softball team placed second at the Jeff County Softball tournament during the weekend at Holton. Team members are: Abby Bays, Katie Beckwith, Kari Corel, Hannah Fair, Allison Potter, Rhiannon Pearson, Michelle Robles, Kerry Neil, Olivia Breitenbach, Jordan Madorin, Hayley Miller and Emily Durflinger.

• Wrestling placings: Hunter Haralson and Boomer Mays, of the Sunflower Kids Wrestling Club, collected first-place awards at the state championship. Levi Florschutz was second, Nick Pursel was third and Caden Lynch placed sixth.

• Kings win: The Lawrence Kings beat the Wichita Eagles, 68-53, in the championship game to win the seventh-grade division of the Lawrence MAYB Tournament. The Kings will compete in the MAYB National Tournament August 5-8 in Wichita. Team members are: Sebastian Bonner, Nate Devin, Dar Fornelli, Chase Hoag, Chucky Hunter, Christian Nelson, Irone Revely, Chandler Schaake, Marcus Spates and Robbie Wright. The Kings are coached by Sebastian Bonner.

• KVSA at Sunflower: The Kaw Valley Soccer Assn. teams Great Attitude and Stars participated in the Sunflower State Games on July 10 and 11 in Topeka. The Stars placed third in the 3×3 division. Team members were Grace Lang, Hannah Carbon, Kaley Tesdahl, Jordan Payne and Rachael Hodison. Great Attitude was 1-2. Team members are Hillary Yoder, Natalie Wilkins, Rachel Kelly, Kathryn Lunte and Emma Kelly. Coach for each team was Riny de Boer.

• Phenix-Fyler shines: The Phenix-Fyler girls fastpitch team placed third at a pair of tournaments the past two weekends. Fyler tied for third in the 10-team 16-U Augusta tournament and took third at the 12-team USSSA State Class 15A tournament in Kansas City. Team members are: Brooke Abney, Livi Abney, Molly Fyler, Emily Lamb, Summer Mulford, Lacey Henry, Sydney Seratte, Hannah Somers, Amanda Weishaar, Lawrence; Julianna George and Sierra Wright, Ottawa; Audrey Chavez and Mallory McGinnis, Topeka; and Jordan Van Houtan, Gardner.

• Long drivers: Three Lawrence residents were among the qualifiers at the long drive tournament at Eudora’s Riverview Golf Course. In the open division, Josh Williams of Lawrence was an open division qualifier with a drive of 354 yards, two feet and five inches. Lawrence’s Eric Siem also qualified in the open division, while Ken McClain of Lawrence qualified in the Super Senior division.
• Orchards tournament set: Orchards Golf Course will be the site of a two-person scramble tournament July 25. There will be a shotgun start at 8 a.m. for the 18-hole tournament. For information, call 843-7456.
