Attention stuns Padgett

? Former Kansas University basketball player David Padgett, who is trying out for USA Basketball’s World Championship for Young Men Qualifying team this week, is enjoying being out of the spotlight following his decision to leave Kansas last spring.

“I didn’t think it would get all that attention,” the 6-foot-11 Padgett told Andy Katz of ESPN, of his decision to bolt KU after one year. “I didn’t want it. I tried not to talk to anybody. I made up my mind on my own, but I didn’t expect all of that attention to happen.”

Padgett told Katz he spoke to North Carolina coach Roy Williams twice about a possible move, but decided Louisville was the place to be.

“The style of play (at KU) wasn’t suited for the type of player that I am,” Padgett said. “It was hard because we went to the Elite Eight. I knew if I stayed or even if I left that they would be good. But I’m glad I made my decision, and I’m glad it’s over with.”
