Racist rules?

To the editor:

As we know, changes are afoot in Allen Fieldhouse — personnel changes, seating changes — but dress and body code changes?

I was amazed to read in a long profile of Bonnie Henrickson, the women’s basketball coach, in the July 9 Kansas City Star that among her new rules are the requirements that players must cover their tattoos during games and that no sagging shorts and untucked jerseys will be allowed. Nothing was said about body piercings.

I am reminded of a recent item in the national news which reported that a nightclub was accused of racism for its dress code that similarly targeted African-American styles. The club, under protest, revoked its restrictions. Let us hope that Coach Henrickson will do the same.
