Bachelor Auction slated for Thursday

This is no time to be shy; it’s time to buy yourself a date.

A dozen dates will be auctioned off Thursday during the second-annual Bachelor Auction to benefit Health Care Access.

One of the available dates includes getting a spa manicure, being escorted in a new car donated from Jim Clark Motors, eating a sunset dinner, compliments of the Lawrence Country Club, and taking a nighttime airplane flight.

The auction, which will be staged at JB Stouts, 721 Wakarusa Drive, features male and female from the Lawrence area. Previews begin at 6:30 p.m.; bidding starts at 7 p.m.

Health Care Access, 1920 Moodie Road, provides care for the uninsured of Douglas County.

History museum offers preschool storytime

Preschool children can participate in a free reading program at the Kansas Museum of History, 6425 S.W. Sixth Ave., Topeka.

Storytime will incorporate props, riddles and games about Kansas cowboys, trains, pioneers and music. Preregistration is not necessary, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Learning time will be in the museum’s Discovery Place from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. each Thursday this month. The schedule:

• July 15: Tales from a Kansas Storyteller
• July 22: Teddy Bears
• July 29: Shoes, Shoes, Shoes!
