Jolie decides to add stripes

Bangkok, Thailand — A visit to Thailand has left an indelible mark on Angelina Jolie.

After a two-day visit to Cambodia, the 29-year-old actress stopped in Bangkok Wednesday to have a tiger tattooed on her lower back by a well-known local artist, The Nation newspaper reported Friday.

Jolie spent more than two hours having the 12-inch-long image applied by renowned tattooist Sompong Kanphai, the newspaper said.

Last year, Sompong applied an image featuring ancient Cambodian script, designed to ward off bad luck, on her back.

Jolie reportedly said she decided to get the new tattoo because the first one made her feel that her life is filled with luck.

Rowling given honorary degree

Edinburgh, Scotland — “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling was praised for making reading “cool” as she received an honorary degree from Edinburgh University.

The university’s graduating students gave Rowling a hearty round of applause Thursday as she was handed the degree of doctor honoris causa in recognition of her contribution to children’s literature.

Rowling remained tightlipped on her progress on the sixth book and whether Harry Potter would himself graduate from the Hogwarts wizardry school he attends.

“The book is going really well. And if I answer that it would give quite a lot away, so I’m not going to, sorry,” she said.

Barker, 80, was named to the organization’s hall of fame last month.

Barker has done the game show for 32 years.

Charles wins schoolgirls’ hearts

London — Prince Charles delighted hundreds of schoolgirls by organizing an extra day’s vacation.

While attending celebrations marking the centenary of St. Paul’s Girls’ School in west London, the heir to the British throne exercised his royal prerogative Thursday to ask the head teacher to give the 680 pupils an extra day off.

“As a way of garnering cheap popularity, if I can ask the High Mistress, if you could possibly have an extra day’s holiday at some stage, I’m sure it will be very well-deserved,” he said during his speech. The head teacher quickly agreed.
