Addison Tibbets Miller

Mr. Miller died Wednesday, July 7, 2004, at his home.

He was born May 14, 1904, in Lincoln, Neb., the son of Harold Bachman and Annie S. Baker Miller.

He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1929, and received a Master of Science degree from the University of Minnesota in 1931. As a youth he was an active member of the Boy Scouts, and was one of the first Eagle Scouts in Nebraska.

Mr. Miller worked for the Nebraska Agriculture Department as a dairy and food Inspector, then for the University of Minnesota as manager of the Experimental Creamery in Albert Lea, Minn. He worked as a senior case worker and parole adviser at the U.S. Penitentiary in Leavenworth for 33 years before retiring.

He was a member of Hiram Masonic Lodge No. 68 of Leavenworth. He served as master in 1952 and deputy grand master in 1963. He was a 60-year member of King Solomon Masonic Lodge No. 10, and a member and past patron of Eastern Star No. 177, Byington Chapter.

Mr. Miller was an active amateur radio operator since 1924. He was a member of Pilot Knob Radio Club in Leavenworth and Douglas County Ham Radio Club in Lawrence.

He married Mary Field on Dec. 31, 1928, in Lincoln, Neb. She died in 1988.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary P. Smith, Forsythe, Mo., and M. Sue Malloy, Lawrence; a son, Richard, Paris; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral chapel.
