Officers surround house with person inside

Douglas County Sheriff’s officers late Monday night surrounded a house north of Lawrence where someone was barricaded inside after a domestic disturbance, authorities said.

There were not believed to be any hostages inside the house, sheriff’s officers said.

At 11 p.m. Monday night, officers trained in negotiations were still attempting to make contact with the person inside the house, in the 2000 section of East 1550 Road, north of Lawrence Municipal Airport.

It was not known whether the person inside was armed. Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lt. Kathy Tate declined to give any information about the person inside.

Earlier in the evening Sheriff Rick Trapp said the incident had stemmed from a domestic disturbance. Neighbors close to the scene were being told to stay inside and roads in the immediate area were blocked by officers.

Several Lawrence Police officers were assisting sheriff’s officers at the scene.

Radio station bulks up missing children reward

Kansas City, Mo. (ap) — A Kansas City radio station has donated $4,350 to a reward fund set up to help find two Independence children who have been missing for a month.

KYYS 99.7 FM added the money to $10,000 already set aside for anyone who provides information that leads to authorities finding Lindsey and Samuel Porter and to the arrest of anyone who helped with their kidnapping.

Lindsey, 8, and Samuel, 6, were reported missing June 6 after their father, Daniel Porter, didn’t return them to his estranged wife following a visit.

Daniel Porter, in custody and charged with parental kidnapping, has refused to tell police where the children are.
