Can we have a show of hands from everybody who doesn’t care about the Super Bowl? OK, Super Bowl XXXVIII (5:25 p.m. Sunday, CBS) is a very big deal for fans of the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers. Now can we have a show of hands from people who didn’t even know there was a team called the Carolina Panthers?

You really have to wonder how great a TV show can be when all anyone can talk about are the commercials. Not just the commercials, but the price of the commercials. It’s a little bit like giving someone an expensive gift and having them compliment you for the cost of the gift-wrapping. Speaking of inane conversations about expensive commercials, Jim Nantz is host of “Super Bowl’s Greatest Commercials” (8 p.m. today, CBS).

• This year’s Super Bowl provides a highly rated lead-in for “Survivor All-Stars” (9 p.m. Sunday, CBS, time approximate), featuring 18 familiar faces, including past winners and colorful favorites. The gang will spend 39 days starving, bickering and strategizing somewhere off the coast of Panama.
• With the election season upon us, I’ve already stopped paying attention to polls. But here’s one with a surprising result. According to a recent survey by the American Kennel Club, almost half of all dog owners insist that their pet canines watch television along with them. Nobody asked me, but my dogs only watch public television. Just kidding.

The AKC wants you to make a date on the couch with your four-pawed pal to catch the AKC National Championship (7 p.m. today, Animal Planet), with hosts Ron Reagan Jr., Lee Arnold and Edd Biven. Dogs in all breed categories (go, pugs!) compete for the coveted title of Best in Show. The winner laps up a bowl of cash worth $50,000.
