Maranatha drops Kaws; McLouth edges JCN

? Mighty Shawnee Maranatha jumped to a big early lead and routed Perry-Lecompton’s girls basketball team, 68-31, Friday in the second round of the Jefferson County North tournament.

But the Kaws weren’t too depressed.

“They were pretty good, but we didn’t play our potential,” P-L sophomore Megan Blosser said after scoring nine points. “But we’re going to stay focused and hopefully we’ll come out with a win (tonight).”

The young Kaws, who have no seniors on the roster, fell to 2-8 and will play Atchison County Community College for third place today.

P-L, which placed fifth at the JCN tournament last year, never had played on the winning side of the bracket.

“We’ve never had to deal with that before,” Blosser said. “We were excited to be over there, but hopefully we’ll come back and get third.”

Haley Wilson led Perry with 11 points.
