David and Linda McAlhaney, Junction City, announce the birth of a son, Azarael David McAlhaney, born Jan. 16, 2004, at the Martha K. Hoover Women’s Health Center in Junction City.

Azarael has a sister, Abigail Jane McAlhaney, 2.

Maternal grandparents are Mary Alice DeLeon and Pete Toledo, both of San Antonio. Paternal grandparents are B.J. Edgemon, Lawrence, and Weldon McAlhaney, Atlanta.

Grandparents are Junior and Melinda Calhoon, Eudora. Great-grandparents are Barb Koelliker and Steve Higgins, both of Highland; Orville and Charlene Calhoon, Lawrence; and Patricia Calhoon and Terry Musser, both of Atchison. Great-great-grandmother is Iva Koelliker, Highland.

Maternal grandparents are Andrea Yewell, Lawrence, and Ed and Roxanne Yewell, Maui, Hawaii. Paternal grandparents are Barbara Zipkin Jones, Costa Mesa, Calif., and Philip Bruce Jones, Highland Park, N.J. Great-grandparents are Myrle Yewell, Topeka, and Ida Zipkin, Rochester, N.Y.

• Sara Freeman, Lawrence, made the 2003 fall semester dean’s honor roll at Bethany College, Lindsborg, by earning at least a 3.5 grade-point average.

• Sarah Marlow, Lawrence, was named to the 2003 fall semester dean’s list at West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, W.Va., by receiving at least a 3.5 grade-point average.

• Jaclyn Anne Polk, Lawrence, owns one bull listed in the 2004 spring Sire Evaluation Report published by the American Angus Assn. in St. Joseph, Mo. The new report features the latest performance information available on 5,428 sires.

• Steven Miles, Lawrence, earned an award for logging 100 hours in the American Quarter Horse Assn. Horseback Riding Program.

The program recognizes AQHA members for time spent with their horses in activities such as trail rides, working cattle, pleasure driving and simply riding.
