4-H and FCE news

Clinton Eagles 4-H Club met Jan. 5 at Wakarusa Valley School. Donald Baldwin, president, called the meeting to order. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite winter activity. Morgan Manger and Delaney Dieker led the club in singing. Kahlyn Heine gave the treasurer’s report.

Lanaea Heine gave the leader’s report. She reminded members about County Club Days, Food Fare, Shawnee County Lock-In and enrollment cards.

The club discussed having a community service project.

A presentation about the Citizenship Washington Focus trip was given. Michelle Colgan gave a talk about mad cow disease.

The Dieker and Hodges families provided treats.

  • The Lone Star 4-H Club met Jan. 12 at Wakarusa Valley School. Members answered roll call by giving their predictions for the Super Bowl.

Members were informed of the following events: County Club Days, Feb. 7, Eudora High School; Food Fare, Feb. 21; and Douglas County Free Fair, July 26-Aug. 1.

Kayla Foley and Kourtney Foley led the club in a bubble-blowing contest for recreation. Michael Krumm gave a presentation about soft drinks.

After the meeting, club members made cards for the residents at Lake View Manor using photographs from their December visit.

The next meeting will be Feb. 9 at Wakarusa Valley School. It will be Parents Night.

  • India FCE will meet at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 12 at the home of Regina Shaver. The lesson will be “Weigh to Diet.” Darlene Bright will have a raffle.
  • The Douglas County Family Community Education Council had an installation ceremony for its 2004 officers on Jan. 13.

The new officers are Myrna Hartford, president, Alice Eisele, vice president; Frances Rake, secretary; Eda Thomason, treasurer; Darlene Bright, public relations; and Pauline Nunemaker, historian.

Genny Hunsinger, Aliene Bieber and Patty Rundquist were appointed to the educational program committee. Darlene Bright, Margaret Fuston and Alice Eisele were named to the Glenna Felts Memorial Committee. Darlene Bright was named chairwoman of the Red Cross Cookies Committee. Rachel Purvis was appointed to the Educational Tours Committee.

Susan Krumm announced the next path program would be Feb. 18-April 16. She said the next Walk Kansas program would be starting March 13. To sign up for either program, call 843-7058.

The spring achievement tea will be April 23 in Building 21 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Willmyra and Stull FCE units each will donate five dozen cookies for the Red Cross Blood Drive Feb. 19 at First Christian Church.
