A.B. Rials Sr.

Services for A.B. Rials Sr., 78, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lawrence Free Methodist Church. Graveside military services will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Rials died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at his home.

He was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Magnolia, Miss., the son of James and Ellen (Broomfield) Rials. He moved to Lawrence from Jackson, Miss., in 1966.

Mr. Rials served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from Kansas University Facilities Operations after 26 years. He was a member of Church of God, where he was deacon for 32 years.

He married Mary Alma Clark on Sept. 15, 1957, in Delta City, Miss. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include eight daughters, Johnnie “Jai” Johnson, Manhattan, Louise Rials, Lea Ann Bruce, Leslie “Lisa” Rials, Julitha Rials, Rita Rials, Kimberly Nicole Rials, all of Lawrence, and Loretta Rials, Lorton, Va.; four sons, A.B. Jr., Jeremiah, Linnell “Linn,” and Clark Eugene, all of Lawrence; five brothers, Joe Lewis, Jackson, Miss., James, Woodland Hills, Calif., William, Rialto, Calif., George, Los Angeles, and Jessie, Kansas City, Mo.; five sisters, twin Mae Bea Moore, Mattie Jackson, Catherine Rogers, all of Flint, Mich., Fannie Brock, New Orleans, and Mary Greenwood, San Antonio; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A son, Michael W., died earlier.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County, sent in care of the mortuary.
