Services planned for Keeshan

Hartford, Vt. — A private spring service is being planned for Bob Keeshan, his son said Monday.

Keeshan, best known for his role as television’s Captain Kangaroo, died Friday in Windsor at 76 after a long illness.

Keeshan’s son, Michael, said a private service for family and friends was being planned for sometime in March or April. A location has not yet been determined, he said.

A separate local service for Keeshan, possibly at the Children’s Hospital of Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., also is being considered, Michael Keeshan said.

P. Diddy lawsuit gets rolling

New York — Jury selection began Monday in a court case against Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, whose former chauffeur contends the rap mogul and a bodyguard forced him to speed away from the scene of a 1999 nightclub shooting.

State Supreme Court Justice Harold Beeler issued a gag order, telling the lawyers not to discuss the case with reporters.

Wardel Fenderson, 45, “was afraid that if he stopped (the car), he was going to be hurt by somebody in the car, and if he didn’t, he was going to be hurt by the police,” his attorney, Lawrence Bernstein, told the Daily News for Monday’s editions.

Fenderson is suing for $3 million; he’s also filed claims against Combs’ company, Bad Boy Entertainment, and Combs’ bodyguard, Anthony Jones, who died in a November shooting in Atlanta.

Performers chosen for music fest

Nashville, Tenn. — LeAnn Rimes and Wynonna are among the stars expected to perform when the Country Music Assn. Music Festival, formerly known as Fan Fair, returns June 10-13 to downtown Nashville.

Also scheduled are Trace Adkins, Dierks Bentley, Clint Black, Brooks & Dunn, Glen Campbell, Terri Clark, Billy Ray Cyrus, Charlie Daniels, Diamond Rio, Vince Gill, Pat Green, Buddy Jewell, Lonestar, Jo Dee Messina, Montgomery Gentry, Keith Urban, Clay Walker and Darryl Worley.

More artists will be announced in the coming months.
