Francis McGuinness and Whitney Rutledge, Lawrence, announce the birth of a son, Francisco Hayden McGuinness, born Jan. 8, 2004, at the Birth and Women’s Center in Topeka.

Maternal grandparents are Tammy Lee, Olathe; and Murry Rutledge, Grand Cayman Island. Paternal grandparents are Mary and William McGuinness, Lawrence. Great-grandparents are Maria McGuinness, San Jose, Costa Rica; Merna Bain, Raymore, Mo.; Udell and Fran Rutledge, Lakeland, Fla.; and Herbert and Monica Perkins, Crown Point, Ind.

  • Brett Lindsey, Olathe, and Anne Henning, Lawrence, announce the birth of a daughter, Ava Mykael Lindsey, born Dec. 28, 2003, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

Maternal grandparents are Debbie and Richard Henning, Lawrence. Paternal grandfather is Lester Lindsey, Paola. Great-grandparents are Ruth Ann and Larry Alley, Gladstone, Mo.

  • Jordan Ensley, Ottawa, Julia Ellena, Lawrence, and Elizabeth Clark, Oskaloosa, made the fall 2003 honor roll at Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, by earning at least a 3.5 grade-point average.
  • John Noll, of Colorado Springs, Colo., climbed the 22,840-foot Aconcagua Summit in Argentina in December. The climb and descent took 16 days to complete. Noll is the son of Tom and Dorothy Noll, Winchester. He is a 1991 Kansas University graduate.
  • Homer VanSant, Lawrence, has been awarded the Bethel Scholar Academic Scholarship from Bethel College, North Newton, for the 2004-05 academic year. The scholarship is valued at $12,000 during a four-year period. VanSant is a senior at Lawrence High School. Academic scholarships at Bethel are based on high school grade-point average and college entrance exams.
  • Jacqueline Dubois and Susan Guth, both of Lawrence, made the fall 2003 semester honor roll at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, Okla., by receiving at least a 3.5 grade-point average. Cale Drumright, Ottawa, made the president honor roll by earning a 4.0 GPA.
  • Pittsburg State University announces area students who graduated during the fall 2003 semester: Cody King, De Soto; Brooke Davies, Samuel Gabbert and Allison Wehner, Lawrence; Kimberly Thompson, Ottawa; Jonathan Myers and Joseph Reischman, Tonganoxie; and Christopher Bell, Wellsville.
  • Casey Tedrow, Lawrence, received a Bachelor of Science in public administration and economic development from Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville, Mo., during the fall 2003 semester.
  • Joshua Goeke, Lawrence, made the dean’s list at Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield, Mo., by earning at least a 3.5 grade-point average.
