Bingham joins Lobos staff

Dave Bingham, the only Kansas University baseball coach to qualify the Jayhawks for the College World Series, has been named an assistant coach at New Mexico.

Bingham, who guided KU to the CWS in 1993, was the Jayhawks’ baseball coach from 1988-95. He compiled a record of 249-225.

Prior to that, Bingham spent 14 seasons at Emporia State, where he posted a 588-270-2 record. During his tenure at ESU, the Hornets won 11 district titles, five regional crowns and eight conference championships and one national championship.

He served as an assistant coach on the U.S. Olympic team that won a silver medal in 1984 and a gold medal in 1988.

He has been running the Dave Bingham Baseball Academy in Lawrence for the last nine years.

UMN head coach Rich Alday said Bingham, 54, would work primarily with the Lobos’ pitching staff. Alday and Bingham played baseball together at both Arizona and Emporia State.

Bingham’s son Brandon is a sophomore on the Lobos’ baseball team.
