Harlan E. Blede

? Services for Harlan E. Blede, 84, Overbrook, will be in the spring at Washington Creek Cemetery. They will announced by Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, Kansas City, Mo.

Mr. Blede died Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004, at Midland Hospice House.

He was born June 23, 1919, in Brady, Neb., the son of Henning and Elsie Blede. He grew up on a farm near Brady.

He was a World War II Navy veteran and served from May 1944 to January 1946. He did duty on the USS Landing Ship Tank-550. He attended Washington Creek Church of the Brethren.

In 1955, he moved to the Washington Creek area in rural Douglas County.

Mr. Blede was a farmer, and he also worked at the Lawrence Co-op Chemical Plant. He retired from the co-op in 1982.

He married Della B. Lewis on March 14, 1940, in North Platte, Neb. She died Dec. 11, 1997.

Survivors include two sons, Harlan L., Overland Park, and Robert Joe, Carbondale; a daughter, Catherine Lou Turner, Gainesville, Fla.; a sister, Doris June Gibbs, Buckner, Mo.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren
