Brown, BHS cruise

? A lopsided victory was a convincing end to a wild week for Baldwin High’s girls basketball team — and Bulldog standout Emily Brown.

Brown collected 12 points and six rebounds, helping the Bulldogs rout Wellsville, 72-21, Monday night at BHS.

Brown didn’t lead the team — Anna Gillispie had 20 points for that honor — but Brown was in the spotlight nonetheless.

After collecting her third rebound of the night, BHS coach Eric Toot called a timeout, and Brown was presented with a game ball signifying her becoming the all-time school career leader in rebounds.

Brown now has 664 boards. Debbie Randle set the old record (660) in 1982. The recognition came three days after Brown became the sixth member of the BHS 1,000-point club.

“It’s been a great week for Emily,” Toot said. “She was named volleyball player of the year for the state last week. She got her 1,000th point. She got the record. She deserves it. She’s a great kid and very unselfish. She works hard. She’s a special kid.”

Baldwin, which improved to 9-2 overall and 5-0 in the league, has won three of its last four during the past seven days and won two of three games in a four-day stretch.

The Bulldogs will be idle until their opener in the Wellsville tournament. BHS will open against a to-be-determined foe either Jan. 26 or Jan. 28.
