Summary of a Life
By Darvin Wallis

They gave me a pen today
For my 40th year at the factory,
Got off at five,
And spent two hours at the park
Watching from a bench
Until it was dark.

The birds --
I have named,
But in reality
They're never the same.

A man and woman stride by
Embracing.

Oh,
To be young, rich --
And in love.
I would forfeit the balance of my days
To die with just one.
