Peggy O’Mara Conway

Mass for Peggy O’Mara Conway, 96, Lawrence, will be at 10:15 a.m. today at St. Lawrence Catholic Center. Burial will be in Woodbury, Conn.

Mrs. Conway died Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community.

She was born March 11, 1907, in New York City, the daughter of Thomas J. and Mary Kearney O’Mara. She graduated from the Academy of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, N.J. She received a bachelor’s degree from the College of New Rochelle (N.Y.), and also graduated from the Katharine Gibbs School. She studied for a master’s degree in English at Columbia University. She lived in Manhasset, N.Y., for 35 years, then moved to Southbury, Conn., in 1975 and to Lawrence in January 2003.

Mrs. Conway was active in civic and social organizations, including the Long Island Federation of Women’s Clubs, Manhasset Community Club, Strathmore-Vanderbilt Country Club, St. Mary’s Church, the School-Community Assn., Girl Scouts, Red Cross and the Republican Party.

She married George J. Conway in 1934 in New York City. He died in 1985.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Debicki, Lawrence, and Jane-Lee McAllister, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Raincoast Conservation Foundation, P.O. Box 26, Bella Bella, British Columbia, VOT 1B0, Canada; or the St. Lawrence Catholic Center, 1621 Crescent Road, Lawrence 66044.
