Wayne Elbert Lee

Services for Wayne Elbert Lee, 89, Lawrence, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Graceland Cemetery in Blencoe, Iowa.

Mr. Lee died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 16, 1914, in Blencoe, the son of Charles and Maude (Russell) Lee. He lived in Omaha, Neb., and Alaska before moving to Lawrence in 1993.

Mr. Lee worked at a Goodyear Plant in Omaha and later as a paymaster in Alaska during construction of the Al-Can Highway. He returned to Omaha and was a sales manager for Allied Van Lines. He retired in 1984 after 30 years. He served as an elder at Florence Christian Church and Fort Street Christian Church, both of Omaha. He was a 32nd degree Mason with the Masonic Lodge of Omaha and member of Toastmaster’s International and Omaha Fish and Wildlife Club. He volunteered for the Roger Hill Volunteer Center and Interfaith Caring Neighbors and lived at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

He married Doris Call in 1935. She died in 1978. He married Jeanne Rybin in 1979. She died in 1989.

Survivors include two sons, Steven, Lawrence, and Roger, Leavenworth; a daughter, Lynnea Wheeler, Spring Hill; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to American Lung Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.
