Here’s a look at results of the Lawrence Chamber of Commerce’s public policy survey. The numbers are rounded to the nearest percent. If totals add up to less than 100 percent, the remainder were either undecided or had no opinion on the issue.

• The chamber should support the Lawrence school district’s efforts to establish a vocational training center in Lawrence: 85 percent support, 3 percent oppose.
• Roundabouts and other traffic calming devices used by the city are a good alternative to traditional traffic-control measures: 32 percent support, 47 percent oppose.
• The South Lawrence Trafficway should be completed on the recommended 32nd Street alignment: 74 percent support, 12 percent oppose.
• The state of Kansas should increase the amount of money budgeted to promote Kansas tourism: 28 percent support, 21 percent oppose.
• The city and state should revisit the possibility of a connecting highway between Kansas Highway 10 and the Kansas Turnpike east of Lawrence: 56 percent support, 21 percent oppose.
• The city should extend sanitary sewers south of the Wakarusa River: 44 percent support, 16 percent oppose.
• The state should pursue a revised sales tax plan as the first step toward allowing sales tax to be charged in Internet sales: 43 percent support, 36 percent oppose.
• The city should impose additional impact fees or increases in other required fees on future developments to provide additional revenue for street and infrastructure improvements: 38 percent support, 39 percent oppose.
• The Kansas Legislature should restore funds that have been removed from the transportation program created in 1999: 53 percent support, 6 percent oppose.
• The South Lawrence Trafficway should be completed on an alignment south of the Wakarusa River: 25 percent support, 45 percent oppose.
• The state should consider a “county option” for state-operated gaming that permits individual counties to decide whether to allow casinos or types of gaming in their counties: 39 percent support, 41 percent oppose.
• The city and county should oppose floodplain regulations above and beyond what is required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency: 53 percent support, 19 percent oppose.
• Another downtown parking garage should be constructed: 30 percent support, 43 percent oppose.
