Arthur R. Jones

? Services for Arthur R. Jones, 74, Bonner Springs, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs. Burial will follow in Bonner Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Jones died Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo.

He was born March 13, 1929, on a farm near Ogallah in Graham County, the son of William Jennings and Ethel Belle (Gordon) Jones. He graduated from Hill City High School and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Fort Hays State University. He was a varsity football letterman at college and in 2002 was inducted into the FHSU Alumni’s Half-Century Club.

Mr. Jones was drafted and served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an elementary school teacher and principal in Winona and Great Bend. He was a banker at Farmer’s National Bank in Osborne from 1972 to 1975 and at Goodland State Bank, now Bankwest, in Goodland from 1975 until he retired in 1994. He continued to serve on the Bankwest board of directors until his death.

He was a longtime member of the Lions Club and American Legion and had been a member of the Selective Service Board since 1981.

He married Mary Elizabeth Garrison 44 years ago. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Arla Jones, Lawrence; two sons, Michael, Bonner Springs, and Joel, Kansas City, Mo.; three brothers, Leonard, Arvada, Colo., Francis, Norton, and Darrell, Oberlin; a sister, Ada Belle Jones Tomanek, WaKeeney; and five grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
