Lions finish fifth in wrestling tourney

Overland Park — Lawrence High’s wrestling team placed fifth of 11 teams at Saturday’s Shawnee Mission South Invitational.

Brendan Halpin placed first at 140 pounds, Nolan Kellerman second at 145, Luke Johnson second at 171 and Tim Giblin third at 189 for the Lions.

Three Firebirds place at Derby tournament

Derby — Free State High’s K.J. Siebert was runner-up in the 152-pound weight class Saturday in a 19-team wrestling tournament at Derby High School.

Siebert was 3-1 in the two-day event.

Matt Somers finished third for FSHS at 130 pounds with a 5-1 record, while Jesse Hardy was fourth at 215 with a 4-2 mark.

The Firebirds will compete Friday and Saturday at the Basehor-Linwood tournament.
