Doug and Amy Bartels, Gilbert, Ariz., announce the birth of a son, Colin Michael Bartels, born Jan. 1, 2004, at Chandler Regional Hospital in Chandler, Ariz.

Maternal grandparents are Dan and Cheryl Bunch, Overland Park. Paternal grandparents are Vern and Ruth Ellen Bartels, Lawrence.

  • Jim and Shana Rothrock, Lawrence, announce the birth of a daughter, Jaeden Cecile Rothrock, born Dec. 25, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Maternal grandparents are Cecil and Judy Bollinger, Emporia. Paternal grandparents are John and Janet Rothrock, Topeka.

  • Gary Freeman, Lecompton, and James Hartshorn, Tonganoxie, were named to the dean’s honor roll at Kansas Wesleyan University, Salina, by earning at least a 3.25 grade-point average.
  • Robert Park, Lawrence, made the fall 2003 honor roll at Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass., by maintaining at least a 5 grade-point average on a 6-point scale. He is the son of Choon and Jinyoung Park, Lawrence.
  • Connie Snow and Steven Miles, both of Lawrence, earned an award for logging hours in the American Quarter Horse Assn.’s Horseback Riding Program.

Snow logged 500 hours while Miles logged 50 hours. AQHA members are recognized for participation in trail rides, working cattle, pleasure driving and simply riding their American Quarter Horses.

  • Lauren Wilkinson, Lawrence, and Wendy Moore, Wellsville, made the honor list for the fall 2003 semester at the University of Missouri-Rolla by receiving at least a 3.2 grade-point average. Lauren is the daughter of Terry and Mark Wilkinson. Wendy is the daughter of Scott and Kim Moore.
  • Frontier Farm Credit announces that applications are being accepted for eight $1,000 scholarships for the 2004-2005 academic year. One scholarship will be given from each of its eight offices in Chanute, Emporia, Eureka, Hiawatha, Lawrence, Manhattan, Marysville and Ottawa.
