Glen Eldred Hastings

Services for Glen Eldred Hastings, 84, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Golden City United Methodist Church in Golden City, Mo. Burial with military honors will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Mr. Hastings died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, at Brandon Woods Retirement Community.

He was born Oct. 9, 1919, in Golden City, the son of Richard S. and Mildred (Jones) Hastings. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pittsburg State University. He lived in Lawrence for 40 years before moving to Sun City West, Ariz.

Mr. Hastings served in Normandy as a Seabee in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a vocational instructor at Haskell Indian Nations University in the carpentry department until he retired. He was a member of El Zaribah Temple in Phoenix, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Washington Lodge No. 87 A.F. & A.M. in Greenfield, Mo., American Legion Post No. 94 in Sun City West and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Phoenix. He also was a life member of the Kansas University Alumni Association and the alumni association of Pittsburg State University.

He married Reba K. Hamm in 1940. They divorced. He later married Shirley R. Rinker, who died in 2003.

Survivors include two daughters, Janie C. Hawkins, Lawrence, and Diana K. Martin, Frontenac; a sister, Leila B. Owen, Springdale, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Masonic services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, where the family will receive friends at 2 p.m. Friday.

The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Assn., sent in care of the mortuary.
