Anita Lucille Crews

A private memorial service is planned for Anita Lucille Crews, 51, Lawrence.

Ms. Crews died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2003, at her home. She was cremated.

She was born Jan. 9, 1952, in Memphis, Tenn., the daughter of Milton and Louise Rossi Crews. She was in the second class that included women at Georgia Tech Engineering School in 1968. She received a doctorate in geology from University of California at Los Angeles in 1980. She graduated magnum cum laude with a law degree from the University of Minnesota in 1988.

Ms. Crews was an assistant professor of geology at the University of Minnesota from 1980 to 1983. She was a law clerk at Dorsey and Whitney Law Firm in Minneapolis in 1987 and an attorney for Fagrae and Benson Law Firm in Minneapolis from 1988 to 1990. She attended St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

She married Mark Vander Horck on Dec. 20, 1982, in Minneapolis.

Survivors include two daughters, Jessica Vander Horck, Bozeman, Mont., and Amelia Vander Horck, Lawrence; and a sister, Diane Campbell, Bartlett, Tenn.

The family suggests memorials to the charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of Lawrence Funeral Chapel.
