Boys roundup: Cyclones suffer third straight loss

? Kansas City Sumner outscored Ottawa High’s boys 12-7 Tuesday in overtime, handing the Cyclones their third loss in eight days.

“That’s the first time we’ve lost three in a row in four years,” Ottawa coach David Grover said. “We’ll see how we react to this, but they were good teams we lost to.”

Sumner defeated Ottawa 46-39 last Tuesday in Kansas City, and Atchison claimed a 77-75 victory Friday in Ottawa. The Cyclones’ five losses have come by a total of 21 points.

Clint Bones led Ottawa with 18 points, and Lee Baldwin added 17.

The Cyclones (14-5) travel Friday to Kansas City Ward.

Tonganoxie — The Chieftains stayed close the entire game, but Tongie was forced to foul late and Immac knocked down its free throws.

Shane Howard had 21 points and Kirk Rodell scored 14 for Tonganoxie (9-10).

“It was a good ballgame, we just weren’t able to answer every time,” Tongie coach David Walker said.

The Chieftains play host Friday to Bonner Springs.

Perry — Mill Valley’s Jacob Eaton led all players with 28 points, and the Jaguars pulled away from the Kaws with a 16-7 run in the third quarter.

“They’re a really good team,” Perry-Lecompton boys coach Pat Hupfauf said. “We had a hard time stopping them in the post. Our guys played with a lot of heart all night, we just couldn’t stop them defensively.”

Spencer Kennedy led Perry-Lecompton with 21 points, and Willie Treaster had 13.

The Kaws (8-11) play Friday at Kansas City Piper.
