Jackrabbits put end to Seahawks’ season

? Seabury played Kansas School for the Deaf close for three quarters, but the Jackrabbits ended the Seahawks’ boys basketball season, 43-34, in a Class 1A regional game Monday at KSD.

The game was tied at 25 heading into the fourth quarter.

“They just wanted it more down the stretch,” Seabury coach Marcus Heckman said. “We played them four games, and the first three games were all close games. They just made plays down the stretch. They’re an aggressive team, and I really thought they deserved to win the game.”

Scott King led Seabury with 14 points, and Adam Davis added 11.

KSD won the season series with Seabury, 3-1.

The Seahawks, who hit just 12 of 23 free throws, ended the season with a 3-13 record.

“We’ve said from Day One it was a two-year plan,” Heckman said. “We only have one senior, and we’re returning our top eight next year. Our emphasis was put on developing fundamentals, building for next year when we have eight, nine guys who are upperclassmen. We gained some experience, and we know what it takes to be successful at this level.

“But there were eight games we lost we had opportunities to win. If you win more of those than you lose, our season has a different feel. I just wish we had pulled out more close games for the kids.”
