Velma M. Coulter

Graveside services for Velma M. Coulter, 74, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Coulter died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 18, 1929, in Iantha, Mo., the daughter of Charles F. and Dorothy Holt McKenzie. She lived in the Lawrence area most of her life.

Mrs. Coulter was the building supervisor for the Burge Union at Kansas University before retiring in 1991, and she had been co-manager of the Kansas Union Bookstore.

She was a member of Mount Oread Aerie 309, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and served on the ritual team.

She married Wilbur C. Rothwell on July 3, 1946. They later divorced. She married Charles S. Coulter on Dec. 18, 1973, in Lawrence. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include three sons, Steven Rothwell, Donald Rothwell and Tim Rothwell, all of Lawrence; three stepdaughters, Karla D. Rex, Overland Park, Kandace Lantz, Olathe, and Kathryn Jo Coulter, Lawrence; a brother, Wayne McKenzie, Alamo, Texas; a sister, Louise Vick, DeSoto, Texas; a stepsister, Evelyn Goodrich, Lecompton; nine grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren and a great-grandson.

Family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Lawrence Humane Society, sent in care of the mortuary.
