Burglaries and thefts reported

  • About 10 p.m. Thursday, Lawrence police responded to a report of a car theft at 24th Street and Ponderosa Drive. Officers cornered the vehicle, and the two suspects took off on foot. Officers caught and arrested a Lawrence man on suspicion of criminal damage to property and felony theft. Another male suspect was not apprehended. No additional information was available late Thursday.

Injury accidents

  • A two-vehicle accident Thursday in Franklin County sent one person to the hospital. About 8:45 a.m., Waylon A. Johns, 20, Ottawa, was traveling west in a large truck on Kansas Highway 68 near Ottawa when a piece of wood from came loose from the truck and struck the windshield of a 1999 Ford headed east, said a spokeswoman from the Kansas Highway Patrol. Katie Hargis, 20, Garnett, was driving the second vehicle. She was treated at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa and released.
