Salvation Army seeks computer volunteers

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers to teach an hourlong basic computer skills class. The class will be offered one to two times per week in the evenings. Volunteers will determine when the class is offered, based on their availability. Most of the course’s students will be from the organization’s shelter, although anyone in the community is welcome to attend.

Immediate volunteer needs

  • The Lawrence Education Assn., the Roger Hill Volunteer Center, Safe Schools Healthy Students after-school programs and the 21st Century Community Learning Centers have teamed up to sponsor a Read Across America project. The project needs 20 or more volunteers to dedicate an hour of their time to read with children at various locations in Lawrence. Volunteers will read between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. March 1-5.   • The Lawrence Junior Wrestling Club is looking for volunteers to help with an event Feb. 29. Volunteers will serve as timers, referee assistants and scorekeepers, and help manage paperwork. A short training is required. To learn more, contact Kathy Jones at 832-5050, ext. 317.
