Government offices in Lawrence and several area cities will be closed Monday in observance of the Presidents Day holiday.

In addition to city offices in Lawrence, offices for the cities of De Soto and Eudora and for Franklin and Leavenworth counties will be closed.

Douglas County offices will be open, although Douglas County District Court will be closed.

Government offices will be open in Baldwin, McLouth, Ottawa and Tonganoxie.

Kansas University will follow its regular schedule.

Most banks will be closed. Liquor stores will stay open.

Lawrence Bus Co. and Lawrence Transit System buses will run. Parking meters in downtown Lawrence will not be monitored.

Lawrence refuse and trash collection will follow its regular schedule, as will Douglas County trash collection.

The Lawrence Public Library will be open.

The U.S. Postal Service will not make regular deliveries Monday; however, Express Mail will be delivered. United Parcel Service pickup and delivery will follow its normal schedule.

The Journal-World business office will be open from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Phones will be answered on the same schedule. USA Today will be delivered.

There will be no Lawrence Parks and Recreation classes. Adult sports leagues and the youth sports Hoopster program will run as scheduled.

Parks and Recreation facilities hours for Monday:

• South Park Recreation Center, 1141 Mass., closed.
• Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper St., closed.
• Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St., 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St., 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
• Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, lap swimming noon to 2 p.m.; zero depth and children’s area swimming, 1 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.
• Carl Knox Natatorium, 1901 La., lap swimming, 6:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

And, if Mother Nature makes a big turnaround, Eagle Bend Golf Course, 1250 E. 902 Road, will take tee times and operate.
