Celebrity chefs highlight South Beach food fest

Miami Beach, Fla. — If you appreciate fine food and wine, or if you’re a fan of celebrity chefs, you may want to spend your spring break at the third annual South Beach Wine & Food Festival.

The event, scheduled for March 5-7, will feature appearances and cooking demonstrations by Emeril Lagasse, Alain Ducasse, Bobby Flay, Eric Ripert, Alton Brown, Rachael Ray, Tyler Florence, Ming Tsai and others.

The schedule includes a celebrity golf tournament, champagne tasting, a Willie Nelson concert, wine seminars, cooking courses and multicourse feasts. Some events are on the beach; some are in posh hotels and country clubs.

Classic car event coming to Atlantic City

Atlantic City, N.J. — America’s largest indoor classic car event is scheduled for Feb. 26-29 at the Atlantic City Convention center.

The show also features a “Hot Rod Alley,” a flea market for hard-to-find car parts and an antiques fair with nonautomotive items like jewelry, art and furniture.

Admission is $16 for adults and $4 for children.

Tours help Jews trace European heritage

League City, Texas — A unique tour group is offering trips to help American Jews trace their roots in Central and Eastern Europe and other places that were once home to large Jewish populations.

The program, an offshoot of a Texas-based Jewish genealogical organization, JewishGen, is called “Shtetl Schleppers.”

Each trip begins with three days of guided tours of important Jewish sites in and around a city that is the nearest hub to the participants’ ancestral villages. Then the group splits up, and each family heads off for four days in their grandparents’ or parents’ village.
