Tuesday’s activities at the Kansas Legislature:
- A Senate panel got its first look at Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ expanded gambling initiative, opening what likely will be a long, acrimonious battle.
- A Senate committee endorsed two bills intended to eliminate obstacles to consolidation of school districts.
- Senators heard support for a bill intended to clarify Kansas’ prohibition on executing mentally retarded defendants.
- The House tentatively approved a bill banning pyrotechnics in public buildings where 50 or more people gather.
- The Senate Judiciary Committee endorsed a bill to ban felons from working as bail bondsmen or bounty hunters.
