— Santa Fe Trail's girls basketball squad led Ottawa, the No. 9-ranked squad in Class 5A, by eight points at halftime.

In fact, the Chargers staved off the Cyclones until the final minute, but Ottawa took advantage of turnovers and prevailed, 60-56, Tuesday at SFT.

"We stopped scoring, but we played hard the entire game," SFT coach Brenda Dahl said.

Megan Ramsey scored 26, and Caitlin Smith 20 for OHS.

Because Ottawa was ranked, Dahl said the loss was easier to swallow -- but just barely.

"They're a good team, but it's kind of the same old, same old," she said. "We're right there with those good teams, but we just haven't found a way to beat them."

Lindsay Boss scored 17, and Hannah Hicks added 11 for the Chargers (8-6), who will play host Friday to Kansas City Piper.

"Lauren's been our go-to person, so to have four people in double figures is good," EHS coach Cara Kimberlin said. "We've been talking that we're one-dimensional, that everyone can drop in on (Kracl), and the perimeter people need to step up. The biggest surprise was Jodi Wingebach."
